If you are experiencing coffee jitters in the morning then you must try these healthy morning beverage swaps. If you are like me and love coffee, however, cross that line at times, between a healthy ritual and caffeine addiction, swap in these beverages and find that you feel better in the morning and actually have more energy.
Hot Water with Lemon
I started drinking hot water with lemon first thing in the morning a few months back and now find it so enjoyable. The taste is so refreshing whereas coffee seems acidic and harder on my stomach, especially first thing in the morning. The warm water is hydrating and the freshly squeezed lemon provides Vitamin C, promotes digestive health and regular bowel movements, and boosts the immune system, fighting infections plus it is caffeine-free. It is a wonderful and soothing way to start the morning. I recommend using organic lemons, especially if you are adding a slice of lemon to the warm water in addition to squeezing a fresh lemon.
Herbal Coffee Substitute
There are many smooth and delicious herbal coffees that are full-bodied and a wonderful swap for regular coffee. Herbal coffees generally contain dandelion and chicory root, two plants that provide nutritious benefits. Dandelion provides calcium, iron, and zinc along with anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Chicory root contains inulin, which is a type of fiber that has beneficial digestive properties. Both chicory and dandelion root are known to support healthy liver function. In addition to the amazing benefits, herbal coffee is so simple to make: just add to warm or cold water and stir. Perfect for first thing in the morning. One of my favorite herbal coffees is Organic Dandy Blend.
Green or Black Tea
Both green and black tea is full of antioxidants that are healing for the body. and fight disease. In addition, even though both types of teas have caffeine, it is less than coffee and also does not have the same effect on the body such as increase heart rate and an elevated feeling of anxiety. The teas contain L-theanine, which has a calming effect on the body, unlike caffeine in coffee. Green and black teas are widely available in stores. When purchasing tea, choose one that comes in an eco-friendly tea bag, or even better try brewing your own fresh tea leaves with a fine mesh tea infuser, which is extra delicious and earth-friendly.
Conscious Nibbing Tip: When steeping fresh tea leaves, steep, just 30 seconds. Tea leaves may be used for a few brews.
So spice up the morning routine and try these beverage swaps. I am sure you will experience a positive shift in your mental and physical energy during the day and when you do have a cup a coffee, it will be all the more enjoyable since it is every once in a while versus every day.
